I spent yesterday, Friday, August 1, driving around North Florida delivering the August issue of Dixie Biker Illustrated. Since I do it in the pick-up truck I get to listen to the radio instead of hearin' the wind rush by. The news reports -- every half hour, all day -- talked mainly about three points: the presumptive Republican and Democrat presidential candidates stumping in the Sunshine State; Nancy Pelosi shutting down the House of Representatives (or should that be the non-Representative house); and record profits at the major oil companies. The price of gas is near and dear to our hearts, so we listened intently to McCain's and Obama's recommendations to ease the impact of the high prices. . .
Obama (D): ". . . inflate your tires and get proper tune-ups."
McCain (R): ". . . drill off America's coasts now."
Well gee whiz -- who's got a plan? And thanks for that bit of sage advice, Obama. You're a friggin' genius. Change you can believe in. Right. Sounds like an echo from the '70's

The second story was Peolosi (D-California) shutting down the House of Representatives for a month using some obscure rule to avoid debate and allow a direct vote on the subject of off shore drilling. Wonderful. These elitists take a month off - summer recess - on our money, and leave us to suck it up and find the money to salvage our summer vacations. And to really piss me off, one commentator remarked ". . . if the House voted to lift the offshore drilling ban, per gallon prices would drop immediately by fifty to seventy-five cents per gallon. . ."
Now I don't know about all that, it sounds great, but I do know that it's time we stopped sending our $$$ to people that hate us. It's time to develop our own resources and our own research into alternative fuels. Even here in the Sunshine State, new polls show over 60% of Floridians want to drill offshore now. That's a big turn around from a couple of years ago. It's time for Pelosi, the House of Representatives and their counterparts in the Senate to listen to the people about off-shore drilling. So. . .
Today it's off to Gator Harley-Davidson in Leesburg for their fifteenth anniversary celebration. Gas for the trip over and back is gonna cost thirty or forty bucks - double what we paid just a year ago - and I won't be able to buy some doo-dad or another that I'd normally buy. Instead of buyin' something to support a local American business, my money's goin' to an oil producer in a foreign country (that probably wants to wipe us off the face of the earth) because our American Congress won't allow American businesses to to employ American people to drill for American oil in American waters. Now what in the hell is wrong with that picture?
