Happy 92nd Birthday the Harley Way!

On July 4th, a Saturday, we took Grandmother Mary Barnett, known affectionately to every-one as ‘Gran’ma’, for a motorcycle ride to celebrate her 92nd birthday.

This is something she’s asked to do the last couple of years and she loves to ride on the back of Buddy’s bike. (Buddy is her pet nickname for her grandson, Ray. [Editor’s note: Ray is the GM of Harley-Davidson of Ocala.])

Ray’s brothers, father, uncles, cousins and their spouses that ride all came into town to make the ride with Grandma. And since she’d told several Divas at our wedding in February that she too wanted to be a Diva, she became an honorary Ocala Chrome Diva on her birthday, too!

Several of the Ocala Chrome Divas: myself, Diva Debby, and Diva Sue escorted the ride and presented Grandma with a Chrome Diva T-shirt. She had a blast the entire time and while she was ridin’ behind Ray on the way to a surprise birthday party, she waved to every car or truck on the road!

When we arrived at the party location, she was surprised when another 50 people met her with birthday wishes. We partied for a good while and everyone enjoyed karaoke, food, and drinks.

She accompanied Ray in singing La Bamba, and danced and sang the whole time. She’s a very special lady, well known here’ and loved by everyone she meets. And she’s still much sharper than many of us!

We thought Dixie Biker’s readers might get a kick out of these pictures.

How cool was that?! Thanks for sharin’ the pictures and the story. What an inspiration. Just proves the adage: Ride hard — you can rest when you die.
